What Themes are Finding You?

I’ve been faced with an inordinate amount of “swtich-a-roos” recently. You know—those moments when the rug gets pulled out from under the plans you made, and everything is disrupted and you’re left scrambling trying to figure out what the best next-step is…

And then there have been times when I’ve tried to make plans, develop strategies, set a course of action, only to be waiting on someone else or something else, and I can’t do squat until I have that information, and so…I…wait.

It’s the classic switch-a-roo.

So rather than stay irritated at the change of circumstances or frustrated with the waiting, I’ve been trying to pay better attention to what’s beneath the irritation and frustration.

Facing Each Day Anew

It’s been one of those stretches where things have just been… heavy.

You know, when you feel like you’re rolling a big boulder uphill in every aspect of your life. Over the past few weeks, I’ve just had one of those stretches where it seems like everything takes considerable effort, and despite that effort, everything still goes backwards. Pair that with the physical exhaustion that invariably accompanies seasons of stress, and you’ve got a compound effect that can feel more than a bit overwhelming.

About That Time When My Family and I Exposed Ourselves in the Forest...

My family and I are vacationing in Colorado at the moment.  Being from Southern California, where we intimately know entertainment, we have been enjoying the slower pace of life at 8700 feet.  Enjoying the outdoors, we have been in awe of the abundant groves of aspens, the high and craggy mountain peaks, and the sheer grandeur of nature.

A natural response to this sheer beauty, at least for us, is to want to get out in it—for our experience is that once we venture off the confines of the roads, Nature shines forth in all her glory; we hear the songs of birds, the soothing sounds of running water, and the smells of forest.  While it certainly can be experienced from the car, when we step out of the insulation, we experience beauty in all kinds of new depths.

Of course, with the removal of that insulation, we leave ourselves vulnerable to things outside of our control.
